Canon shows first footage from its unusual RF 5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye lens. The new Canon RF 5.2mm f/2.8L Dual Fisheye Lens is the world’s first digital interchangeable lens that captures stereoscopic 180° images onto a single image sensor for processing in virtual reality (VR) software.
The RF 5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye Lens will be available in early 2022 for $1,999 at B&H, Adorama.
The lens’s unique folded design includes 24 elements in 20 total groups. Each of the two lenses has a dozen elements in 10 groups. There are four ultra-low dispersion elements in each of the two lenses. The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 20cm (7.9″) and includes a built-in gelatin filter holder for using filters, including a neutral density filter.
Canon also announced a new firmware update with the lens announcement and it will be related to the Canon EOS R5 to allow compatibility with the VR lens and new EOS VR software solutions for conversion and processing. There will be a Canon EOS VR Utility and EOS VR Plug-in for Adobe Premiere Pro. The software will be available via subscription.
